About Pat Moomey

Pat Moomey, InterventionistPat started her own recovery in 1982 and immediately started helping others in 1984 following crisis intervention training for the Be Sober Hot Line and substance abuse peer helping skills with John Bradshaw. During the following years Pat received continuous training for interventions other than alcohol and drugs, grief, domestic violence, relapse prevention and coaching.

From 1987-1999 Pat and her husband facilitated Christ-centered 12-step groups at their church and gave training on group dynamics for other churches to start groups.

From 1990-1995 Pat and her husband organized “Christians Making Connections” conferences with attendance up to 800 with the goal of networking in the Christian community.

From 1995-2002 Pat was the Director of Rehabilitation at the Salvation Army in Canoga Park where she trained many interns from the local colleges.

Pat has been doing interventions for various addictions and working with family members with issues such as assertiveness, shame, co-dependency and grief. Coaching has been a recent addition to help those in recovery with over 90 days sober or family members who need help while a loved one is in treatment or when they return home.

Pat has been an educator and speaker for organizations including:

  • Azusa Pacific University
  • National Association for Christians in Recovery

Interventions:

Pat has a personal interest in the issues at hand and earning the trust of her clients. Her intervention questionnaire is available for all family members to answer and help determine the urgency of the intervention. Pat works as an encouragement for the entire family unit, giving direction and education from the very first step, which could be one of the hardest decisions they have even made. She has expertise with Christians and Christian treatment centers. She will work with compulsive behaviors and addictions around alcohol, drugs, sex, food and gambling. She is a Board Registered Interventionist, Certified Addictions Treatment Counselor, and Certified Recovery Coach. Pat's goal is to SAVE LIVES AND RESTORE FAMILIES.

Education

Pat received Advanced Clinical Training in Alcoholism/Substance Abuse and Peer Helping Skills with John Bradshaw in 1984. Also, in 1984 she received 30 hours of crisis intervention training for The Be Sober Hotline. She graduated from Los Angeles Mission College in May 1990 and became a Chemical Dependency Specialist.

Pat became certified as an interventionist with The Johnson Institute in October 1990 and became the interventionist for The Minirth-Meier Clinic West as well as Life Plus Institute. She has been an independent interventionist since that time.

Since that time, Pat has continuously educated herself about many issues pertaining to addiction.

In 1990 she completed 20 hours of training on Co-dependency, in 1995 she received 11 hours of training on Advanced Skills and Professional Development in Rehabilitation Services while she was Director of Rehabilitation for The Salvation Army.

In addition, Pat became a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist by The Grief Institute in July 1996 and received six hours of training for relapse prevention from Terrence Gorski.

Pat attended and earned 34 units from The University of Utah Drug and Alcohol School in 1998. Again in 2001 she earned 30 units. Training continued in 1998 when Pat received 16 hours of training for Strategies with Men who Batter. In a desire to help those with other addictions, Pat became a Certified Gambling Counselor by The California Council on Problem Gambling in May 2000. In May 2005 Pat graduated from The Coaches Training Institute as a life coach. In 2006 Pat graduated from Crossroads Coaching and became a recovery coach to help her clients and families have promising futures.

In 2006 Pat became a Board Registered Interventionist by the Association of Intervention Specialists Credentialing Board.

As an Educator

Pat also trained over 60 interns to become marketable as substance abuse counselors while she was the Director of Rehabilitation at The Salvation Army in Canoga Park.
